Bio
Mike Dennison is a long-time Vancouver yoga teacher and competitive runner. He competed for the University of British Columbia track and cross-country teams and after graduation trained for many years with an elite group that included many of Canada’s finest distance runners. During this time Mike ran 10 marathons and countless other races from 800 meters to the half-marathon. After realizing he would never make the national team in running, but being intimately familiar with all the good and bad things that running can do to the human body, Mike discovered yoga and found a way to rehabilitate his body from the many years of running.
“When I began yoga I thought I was really fit, but I was really only half-fit. I had no suppleness in my body, it was so tight and unbalanced from years of running and other sports and it was easily injured. Yoga completely kicked my ass, and it was when I combined yoga and running that I began to understand what being truly healthy and fit meant”.
Mike began practicing yoga in 1996, began teaching in 1998 and founded Vancouver’s City Yoga the same year. He has taught hundreds of yoga classes to students at all levels of yoga experience and has studied extensively with many of today’s finest yoga teachers, throughout North America and abroad. He is an accredited teacher with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 Hour level.
